An international group of intellectuals who campaign for dialogue, peace and the humanisation of the Colombian conflict published a declaration on July 16th 2009 in which they express their support for the activities of Piedad Cordoba and the group CCPP 'Colombians for Peace'. Both are seeking dialogue with the FARC guerrilla movement which is hoped will lead to the freeing of hostages and to peace negotiations.
The first list of signatories which includes the Argentinean Nobel Peace Price laureate Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, François Houtart, Emerite Professor at the University of Louvain in Belgium and the writer James Petras, Emerite Professor at the University of Binghamton in the United States, has totalled 120 signatures.
The following week a petition was launched in Europe by the representatives of CCPP with the aim of garnering support for this initiative. Visitors to www.infoLibertad.com have been able to support this petition by using the onsite form.
