The Ingrid Betancourt Support Committees welcome the liberation of Christian Chesnot and George Malbrunot and send them their best wishes for Christmas and the New Year that they will now be able to spend with their families.
It is the wish of the committees that Ingrid Betancourt, whose birthday is on Christmas Day and Clara Rojas, whose birthday was on 20 December and that all the hostages in Colombia, two of whom were kidnapped on 21 December 1997, exactly seven years ago yesterday, the day of the freeing of Chesnot and Malbrunot, that all these hostages may be able to share the same joys in the near future.
They ask the International Community to speak out on behalf of those people who are deprived of their freedom everywhere in the world and more especially in Colombia, a country that accounts for 85% of all hostages world-wide.
