The International Federation of Ingrid Betancourt committees (FICIB),representing
more than sixty committees in France and abroad, adds its voice to those
of Yolanda Pulecio, Ingrid's mother and Astrid Betancourt, her sister,
who have always been and are convinced that Ingrid is indeed alive.
Yolanda and
Astrid are shocked by the irresponsible idea put forward by those who
suggest that this is not the case. Action campaigns and negotiations
must continue at all cost.
The fight
cannot stop until Ingrid and the other hostages are freed. More than
ever, all the FICIB committees will continue and will step up their
campaigns, in conjunction with the 1,800 towns and communities that
decided to give Ingrid, at the committees' request, the title of
Honorary Citizen.
During the meeting held
on 13 June with the French Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bernard
Kouchner and his advisers, members of the FICIB Administrative Committee
stated the French Foreign Office shared their analysis of the situation
in Colombia, and discussed details of future actions planned in
conjunction with French government efforts to liberate Ingrid Betancourt
and the other hostages in Colombia.
